What a hot and hard summer it has been for us in the northern hemisphere! August hosted two super full moons (Aug 1, Aquarius; Aug 30 Pisces). I continue to affirm for comfort, strength, and ready support for all those suffering devastating loss and heartbreak.
Venus in Leo ends retrograde, Sept. 3; Jupiter in Taurus starts retrograde, Sept. 4:
Back to school/work month kick-starts with several significant transits to report. As of September 3, Venus in Leo ends retrograde. Rarest of all the planetary retrogrades, Venus retrograde is an especially notable transit as it puts fate and destiny-making choices into play in an irreversible, threshold-crossing way. On September 4, Jupiter in Taurus (a Venus ruled sign) begins retrograde. Jupiter’s influence is that enlarging the scope, the value, and the cost. Jupiter retrograde continues to the end of December. The rest of the year is also foundation laying for what is soon to overtake the past (including patterns of relating and creating) and fast-track your new reality.
Both Venus and Jupiter are “at station” at the same time. (The appearance of the condition known as “station” happens just before a planet makes the switch from retrograde to direct or vice versa.) You can experience Sept 3, 4, (and the days nearby) as arriving at a standstill, yet infused, moment, or a pregnant pause threshold. This feel can stretch beyond the here and now time. That standing on a precipice quality can weave into the life experience, reverberating like a musical note or carrying forth like an ocean wave.
As of September 3 (when the planet completes retrograde), Venus will have travelled two-thirds of the way through her current tour of Leo. This last third launches the assimilation, implementation, and resolution portion of the cycle regarding what can be worked on, out, and/or gained during the current time allotment. You may not complete the entirety of what your soul would like to accomplish, but you can make a good dent in that bigger picture agenda.
As of September 4, Jupiter is freshly onto a retrograde tour in the Venus ruled sign of Taurus. Coinciding with the Venus transit as discussed in the previous paragraph, Jupiter’s aim is to put you more directly in touch/in tune with that which is holds the most value and meaning – to you, to your soul. Jupiter retrograde amplifies inner hearing/the voice of your inner teacher. This Jupiter retrograde cycle continues through the end of the year. Now through the rest of the year lays important groundwork for your future. Stay awake, stay on the lookout, and see this time-frame for the tremendous opportunity it presents. Rise up to meet each day with courage and faith in a future that is worth living, and in your ability to make wise choices to support that future. When the future is in question or feels threatened by today’s losses, this is when you will be challenged to hold steady and to reclaim your trust in a higher purpose, in your soul’s master plan for your ultimate end-game benefit. It is no small feat, but it is the key to attainment of your rightful dues. (There’s more on September 4 a few paragraphs down.)
Mercury in Virgo travels retrograde from August 23 to September 15:
As the ruler of Virgo, Mercury retrograde in its home sign can either be more significant, or more subtle and less problematic than what we might usually experience during the typical trickster cycle.
In general, the next few weeks of Mercury retrograde set a backdrop for getting a better handle on it, for tending to unfinished business, for cleaning, clearing, improvement and fix-it projects of all kinds (mind and heart included). Skills upgrades, employment (labour strikes), employees, health and matters pertaining to pets also get top of the list attention. Mistakes, miscommunications, equipment breakdowns and health challenges are typical of the retrograde cycle. Accidents are also a signature of Mercury retrograde. (On the first day of this transit, Prigozhin’s private plane crashed on its way to Moscow. It was carrying the Wagner leader, his 2nd in command and other of his top officials. Putin denies any involvement.)
Of course, the clean-up and repair from the devastating wildfires will be all consuming for some time to come. (My heart goes out to all who are grappling with devastating loss. It is your time to receive. I pray that you find comfort through the generosity of those in your immediate sphere, and that you feel the reach from those from afar that are praying for you and contributing what they can. To bear witness to it all – it is but another reminder not to take life for granted, to honor each moment and each person for the gift that they are, even when circumstances and life’s learnings place great strain on the heart. As best you can, make good use of time and opportunity. Pay attention to the details but don’t sweat the small stuff. Stay flexible with plans, schedules, and ambitions. Also, aim to stick to a healthy regime and healthy choices. Simplify where and how you can.
September 6: The midpoint of Mercury retrograde (Mercury/Sun inferior conjunction):
On September 6, Mercury in Virgo reaches the halfway point of its retrograde tour (Aug 23 to Sept 15). This begins the next phase of the healing, repair, and improvement/upgrade process, of addressing the necessity, of the work or work through it cycle. Expect that work through it process to continue past the end of the retrograde cycle on September 15. Mercury continues in Virgo until October 4.
At the start of retrograde back in August, Mercury gained a bit of reprieve – from Uranus (a trine aspect). One of the results of that planetary pairing was a shift the winds which assisted the firefighting in some regions. Mercury/Uranus, an energizing or enlivening influence, allows for a fresh perspective, momentum, or opportunity. September 29, 30, both Mercury (trine) and Venus (square) are triggered by Uranus. Mercury trines Uranus for a second time on September 30. On the heels of Venus/Uranus (square), the end of the month is set up to facilitate a breakthrough regarding matters of mind, heart, or reality. Fresh opportunity can spark.
Mercury/Jupiter trine (Aug 9, Sept 4, Sept 25)
Mercury and Jupiter meet three times by trine (Aug 9, Sept 4, Sept 25). This informing planetary pairing expands the scope of your present learning curve, and thereby increases your vantage point regarding the reality – and a potential to envision where the future might be heading. In other words, intuition provides a stronger signal now. It is up to you to heed the message and to put it into action. Through the end of the year, Jupiter retrograde will continue to solidify the foundation for next year’s springboard.
New Moon in Virgo, Sept 14:
At the time of the new moon, Mercury is at station and just a half day away from ending retrograde. The new moon picks up good energy from Pallas Athene, (justice archetype, the warrior goddess) freshly into Libra on September 13, from Mercury ending retrograde, Venus/Jupiter turning a corner (square) and Eris/north node about to hit a next page. This combination of planets should provide good fuel to tackle that which is necessary and/or desirable. Eliminate the marginal, push past your insecurities and take on what you know in your mind and in heart will set you on the improvement or betterment track. Apply yourself and you’ll set yourself up for gain. Having said all that, this new moon can put potential on the horizon, but you may not see all that it entails. The new moon is in opposition to Neptune, which can be a rose-coloured glass, infiltration, or lack of immunity transit. Stay inspired, stay hopeful, but don’t bank on a promise until you know more, and safeguard your health, your passwords, etc.
Ceres in Scorpio, Sept. 15 to 24:
September 15 to November 24, asteroid Ceres tours Scorpio. Ceres has a metamorphic process like Pluto in terms of unearthing and confronting what the soul is ready to review and transmute.Ceres is the archetype of grief, loss, rebirth, and recovery. As such, Ceres can take you deep into inner workings/the shadow work, into where you have been abducted by undermining or destructive forces (addictions, self-undermining, karmic patterns, the unfinished business of relationships, and power-play dynamics). When Ceres is activated, we can be consumed with working our way through grief and loss. A sense of betrayal and anger can accompany loss, be that an anger against God, Mother Nature, another, one’s own shortcomings or the consequences of poorly made decisions.
As the goddess of the seasons, Ceres also demonstrates the cycle of life, after winter comes spring, after death or ending comes rebirth, after loss comes renewal, reclamation, and recovery. Whether emotional or actual, whether consciously planted by self or by soul, the seeding process of a Ceres transit holds greater than average potential.
Karmic Axis Triggers:
(Dates of note: September 4: Ceres/South Node in Libra; September 17: Eris/North Node in Aries)
To mid month, Ceres in transit through Libra keeps the focus on key relationships. That could be a matter of strengthening relationship bonds, of karmic re-meet or repeat, or of wrestling with the imbalances, (codependency, enmeshment, projected expectations). On September 4, Ceres is positioned at a potent karmic an ending and beginning threshold (conjunct the karmic south node). It adds extra turbo to the already potent transits of the day, namely the start of Jupiter retrograde, Mercury/Jupiter trine, and the end of Venus retrograde (as discussed in previous paragraphs).
An interesting side note: the last conjunction of Ceres/south node was in December of 2019. By January of 2020, Covid would be declared a pandemic. Apparently, we aren’t out of the woods yet. In one form or another Covid is still around – there is talk of another Covid wave on the horizon. Certainly the Ceres transit could speak to this, but this karmic review or revitalization transit speaks to so much more. It holds potential for every facet of today’s reality.
While Ceres triggers one end of the karmic axis (the south node of the moon), Eris, the goddess of discord, triggers the other end (the north node of moon.) In July, the karmic axis switched sign polarities, moving out of the fixed signs of Taurus/Scorpio and into the cardinal signs of Aries/Libra. (Cardinal energy is instigating and activating.) For the next 18 months, the focus is on the balancing act. It is a time of acceleration for the experiential track, of working through personal versus relationships needs (at all levels, i.e. one-one-one, social, professional, political.) The intention for this 18-months is to establish an improved equilibrium regarding how we show up for self within relationship. (I wrote about this important transit in previous columns.) To the plus, Eris will keep stoking the flame of desire. Like Ceres, Eris fights hard for what she wants and feels she deserves. On a caustic note, watch this day for hot triggers, angry people on the move, inflammation conditions, or notable unleashing on the world stage. Eris moves to a next page (re karmic staging) as of September 17.
Autumn Equinox: Sun enters Libra, Sept 22 (11 :50 pm PDT)
At the Autumn Equinox, the sun is at a cardinal (activation) turning point as the sun crosses from north to south the celestial equator and begins a new season. (Aside: There are 4 cardinal points/signs in the zodiac, marked by the equinoxes and solstices and changes of seasons). The sun in good angle to Pluto and to Sedna suggests an opportunity to move forward with reality of present circumstances, even if that means relinquishing something that was previously treasured or sought after as an ideal, a goal, or a solution. It can mean letting go of someone who has a piece of your heart. On another note, the equinox will energize potential that is already on brew but that has not yet seen the (full) light of day. The influence of next month’s eclipses can put that potential on greater show. (Note that eclipses start to energize well before they happen, so know that the month of September is prime for stage setting.) Make full use of time and opportunity while the moment is infused with greater than average creative potency.
Other notable dates: Sept 10, 11, 27, Full Moon Sept. 29, 30
Despite Mercury retrograde, Sept 10 and 11 Venus/Juno set a good backdrop to sign a contract, solidify an agreement or make it official. Venus/Juno will team up once more, on Sept 27. Once the commitment or plan is set in place, it is off to the races! As stated previously, the full moon in Aries on September 29 and 30 bring the end of the month to a full swing finish. You could find yourself on a fast track into something completely new.
I’ll be back next month to talk about the 2 eclipses in October (Oct 14, 28). In the meantime, if you are interested in Beginner Astrology Classes (starting Oct 5) or a personal session with me, please don’t hesitate to reach out: https://rosemarcus.com/contact/
