July overview

Before getting to July, there are several sign changes, a full moon and Mercury retrograde to tell you about:

Mercury Retrograde in Cancer: June 29 – July 23

Mercury turns retrograde on June 29 and remains so until July 23. While Mercury travels through Cancer, the mind processes experience through feeling before intellect. Thinking and perception becomes more subjective, intuitive, and memory-based. Under this transit, you can find you respond more emotionally than usual—not necessarily through an outward display, but by pulling inward, reflecting, reminiscing, or internalizing. If you find yourself responding in an emotionally reactive way that is more than the moment warrants, it is likely a trigger for something from your memory bank (this life time or a prior one) that sits unresolved.

Often, Mercury retrograde brings the past back into the present. This can be through an actual reconnection or through memories. A replay of circumstances offers an opportunity to explore and to gain a new awareness, and to respond differently than before.

By now you probably know the Mercury retrograde drill. Slow the pace where possible, double-check details, ask more questions. Give extra attention to security, safety, and health. If you can, postpone signing important contracts or making major purchases until Mercury is direct again. If a delay isn’t possible, make sure there is room for revisions, an exit strategy, or a refund policy should your interest or circumstance change.

What nurtures and nourishes you the best? The next few weeks of Mercury retrograde are a good time to prioritize self-care, and to give family and loved ones extra attention. Loved ones, family, home, real estate, roots, emotional security and comfort zones gain added attention under this Mercury transit. On a collective level, the transit also increases the focus on matters of national security, public sentiment, and the need to protect what is essential. These subjects have been enlarged in scope during the past year of Jupiter in Cancer (ends on June 29) and will continue to stay front of mind while Mercury transits Cancer, (to August 9). (Jupiter pertains to the broad range/application of concerns and needs (a focus on the future). Mercury keeps the focus on immediate concerns and needs (today).)

June 29: Full Moon in Capricorn, Mercury stations retrograde, Jupiter enters Leo:

Mercury stations retrograde on the same day as the Capricorn full moon. On this same day, Jupiter leaves Cancer and enters Leo. A realization can crystallize, or a long-developing reality may finally take tangible form. Something that has held both promise and uncertainty, (i.e., a goal, an ambition, a responsibility, or an ongoing challenge), can reach an important turning point. The Capricorn full moon can mark a timeline of significance (an ending or a beginning).

Plans or priorities may need to shift, perhaps because of an unexpected development that demands immediate attention. For some, the climb ahead may feel like moving a mountain. For others, this full moon can coincide with the recognition, achievement, or milestone that has been years in the making. Whether you have reached a destination, completed an important chapter, or are at the beginning of a new one, recognize that this is a threshold crossing, not a final destination.  From this point forward comes the next stage of learning, development and implementation.

Mercury will form a conjunction with the Sun on July 12. The inferior conjunction is the midpoint of the retrograde cycle and marks a pivot moment in the retrograde process. Whether subtle or obvious, from this point forward comes a shift in plans, conversations, negotiations, implementation, or overall momentum.  Watch for a fresh insight, or new information to emerge, or for a circumstance to shift. Supporting planetary aspects over the following days help to keep things moving along a productive track.

Mercury turns direct on July 23 but remains in Cancer until August 9. While the retrograde phase ends, the integration continues through the post shadow period. The weeks that follow are for applying what has been learned, making adjustments where needed, and moving ahead with better emotional clarity.

Jupiter Enters Leo – June 29

Jupiter enters Leo on June 29, beginning a year-long transit through the sign of the heart. Known as the Greater Benefic, Jupiter symbolizes growth, expansion, opportunity, wisdom, and abundance. Its nature is to enlarge whatever it touches—to increase, cultivate, and encourage development with an ease that often seems to unfold naturally rather than through force.

Of course, expansion is not always synonymous with improvement. Jupiter magnifies. At times it can bring more than anticipated or even more than we wanted. Excess, overconfidence, inflated expectations, or taking on too much can be just as much a part of Jupiter’s experiential track/teachings as blessings and opportunity. Jupiter’s ultimate purpose is to broaden knowledge and perspective, to encourage continued growth through experience.

Jupiter spends approximately one year in each zodiac sign, completing a full cycle every twelve years. Its current transit through your natal chart—by sign, house, and planetary aspects—reveals where your soul is seeking greater development, new opportunity, to gain confidence, and broader experience over the year ahead.

Every twelve years marks a Jupiter return, a significant milestone that often opens a new cycle of personal growth, aspiration, and possibility. It can be illuminating to reflect on both twelve-year and six-year intervals, tracing the larger arc of your life’s expansion and the turning points that have shaped it. Jupiter’s previous journeys through Leo occurred in 2014–2015 and 2002–2003, offering useful reference points for themes that may now be returning at a new level of development.

Jupiter in Leo shines a light on the creative process itself—not simply artistic creativity, but the ongoing evolution of becoming more fully yourself. Leo asks, Who am I when I lead from the heart? What gifts am I here to express? Jupiter amplifies this quest, encouraging greater confidence and wholehearted participation in life.

Leo correlates with the heart as both a physical organ and a spiritual center. It symbolizes the life force that fuels vitality, joy, passion, love, and the courage to shine as your authentic self. As Jupiter moves through Leo, it nourishes this inner wellspring, inviting you to reconnect with what genuinely inspires you and to express it more freely.

This transit can awaken dormant talents, strengthen creative confidence, and encourage you to step into a more visible expression of who you are becoming. The more your life reflects the truth of your heart, the more naturally Jupiter’s promise of abundance can find fertile ground.

More on the Significance of June 29

On June 29, within the span of approximately ten hours, Mercury stations retrograde in Cancer, the Capricorn Full Moon reaches its peak and Jupiter leaves Cancer for Leo. Additionally, Mars is freshly mobilized in Gemini and Jupiter forms a dynamic aspect (square) to Chiron in Taurus. Together, these transits describe a powerful shift in consciousness, priorities, and momentum.

A full moon will always shed light on that which was not fully recognized and/or bring what is already brew to its fullness.  The Capricorn Full Moon can be a sobering influence, (i.e., coming face to face with a stark or harsh reality),  or it can mark a timeline (beginning or ending, a ripe time, the mature moment) of significance. It revealing what has substance, and exposes what requires greater commitment. A decision may be finalized. A truth can no longer be ignored. What has been developing behind the scenes now reaches a point of definition. Time passages, time limits, age, aging structures, retirement, boundaries and borders fall under the Capricorn archetype. (My heart goes out to those suffering through the devastation and loss of loved ones from Venezuelan double earthquake.)

Mercury’s retrograde tour through Cancer prompts a different way of processing experience. Rather than rushing toward answers or solutions, it asks you to turn inward. Mercury retrograde is often viewed as inconvenient or disruptive, but its greater purpose is to hone your observation skill, and to deepen your relationship with yourself. It invites reflection before action, helping you reconnect with your emotional truth, reclaim inner stability, and strengthen the foundation from which your choices are made. In Cancer, Mercury retrograde is an opportunity to rebuild your internal home base—to cultivate greater emotional security and consistency from the inside out.

As Mercury turns inward, Jupiter turns outward. Entering Leo, Jupiter expands the desire to create and express, to live and to love more wholeheartedly. Confidence can grow. So does the desire for recognition, fulfillment, and reward. Jupiter also speaks through intuition. It encourages trust in the quiet inner knowing that points toward your next stage of growth. The invitation is not simply to dream bigger, but to have the courage to follow what genuinely inspires your heart.

Adding even more momentum to this pivotal day is Mars, newly arrived in Gemini on June 28. Mars acts as the catalyst that mobilizes the larger planetary shifts now taking place. Together, Mercury retrograde, the Capricorn Full Moon, Jupiter’s change of signs and an activated Mars can break a stalemate, clarify uncertainty, and establish a new direction. This is a valuable checkpoint—one that helps you better recognize where you truly stand, what has genuine potential, what resources are available, and what no longer belongs in the future you are creating.

If something breaks apart, trust that it is also creating space for something new to emerge. Every ending contains the seed of a beginning, and this one is designed to move life forward.

Moving forward to July transits:

The momentum continues to build through the opening week of July. Mars conjoins Sedna on July 1, Uranus on July 3, and forms a harmonious trine to Pluto on July 5. These aspects reinforce the breakthrough potential already set in motion. Solutions can appear unexpectedly, momentum can build quickly. Obstacles that once seemed immovable may begin to shift with surprising ease. Even when circumstances force you to muster up courage or you face a difficult choice (and despite Mercury retrograde), the first week of July favours decisive action and supports meaningful progress.

The sun squares Saturn on July 6 and Neptune stations retrograde on July 7. In combination, both transits serve to remove the block or uncertainty. By exposing what is no longer sustainable, these transits aim to strengthen the foundation for what comes next. Sometimes progress is measured not only by what moves ahead, but also by what is finally cleared out of the way.

The aftermath of the recent Venezuelan earthquakes, the heat domes in Europe and North America, the ongoing conflicts in the middle east and Ukraine/Russia – tragedy and hardship are in excessive supply. There are bright spots in the world of living too. Fifa, Canada Day on July 1 and Independence Day in the United States on July 4, (and Taylor Swift’s wedding?) add celebration, travel, family gatherings, and heightened activity to an already eventful week.

The pace settles somewhat when Venus enters Virgo on July 9, remaining there until August 6. Venus in Virgo shifts attention toward refinement, improvement, healing, work, and practical results. It supports better organization, greater discernment, and more efficient use of time, energy, and financial resources. This is a good transit for undertaking adjustments that can lead to benefits. Simply put, Venus in Virgo is about making your money work for you—not the other way around.

Mid-Month Forward:

As mentioned above, July 12 marks the midpoint of Mercury’s retrograde cycle—a pivotal moment that often signals a shift in momentum. New information can surface, plans can crystallize, and conversations can take a more purposeful direction. Building into July 13, Venus and Uranus add a refreshing influence, encouraging creative solutions, unexpected opportunities, or a welcome change of perspective.

By the end of the week, an even bigger story begins to unfold. Uranus and Pluto launch the first of five exact trine alignments, initiating a two-year cycle that accelerates personal and collective reinvention. The exact dates are July 17, November 26, 2026; June 15, 2027; January 12, and May 9, 2028.

Uranus and Pluto are powerful agents of change. Together they create the conditions for breakthrough, innovation, and meaningful progress. If you are ready for change, this planetary pairing has a remarkable way of bringing synchronicity into play. Doors open. The right people appear. Unexpected developments reveal themselves to be perfectly timed. Under Uranus and Pluto, what first appears to be a risk often proves to be the natural next step in your evolution.

From July 17 onward—and especially through July 20 and 21—make the most of the opportunities the moment presents. Participate. Celebrate. Socialize. Travel. Say yes where your instincts tell you to explore. Go while the getting is good.

Appropriately, the FIFA tournament concludes under Jupiter’s opposition to Pluto. While the games may end, the momentum they have generated carries forward. A fresh wind begins to stir.

Jupiter opposite Pluto on July 20 amplifies everything. Activity increases. Travel peaks. Markets can become especially active, while significant political or world events are likely to command attention. Yet this is not simply a day of heightened intensity—it opens the door to an exceptionally dynamic week.

The days that follow continue to build on this momentum:

  • July 20: Jupiter trine Neptune expands vision, possibility, and creative potential.
  • July 21: Jupiter sextile Uranus delivers fresh information, breakthrough thinking, and exciting new opportunities.
  • July 22: The Sun enters Leo, shifting attention toward creativity, confidence, and wholehearted self-expression.
  • July 23: Mercury turns direct, allowing plans, decisions, and forward movement to gather strength once again.

The creative momentum continues through the final week of July. The Sun opposes Pluto on July 26, sextiles Uranus and trines Neptune on July 27, and joins Jupiter on July 29, creating one of the most inspired and expressive periods of the month. Saturn stations retrograde on July 26, encouraging reflection and recalibration, while Venus and Mars reach an important turning point on July 29, bringing relationships, values, and desires into sharper focus.

To summarize the month in a single sentence: July is full to the brim with opportunity, movement, and a few surprises along the way.

Uranus and Pluto are the principal change-makers, setting reinvention onto an accelerated track that will continue well beyond this month. Jupiter’s arrival in Leo—joined by the Sun during the final week of July—greatly amplifies creative potential, confidence, and the desire to live more wholeheartedly. Chiron’s move into Taurus introduces a profound invitation to align more fully with your authentic path, while Mars in Gemini keeps life in motion and encourages adaptability.

There are moments when you are meant to take the wheel. There are moments when life asks you simply to stay present for the ride. And there are moments when the wave arrives and all you need to do is catch it.

Let your intuition, instincts, and heart be your compass. Don’t allow fear to keep you from exploring what life is offering, even when the opportunity arrives in unfamiliar packaging. Every experience carries the potential for growth. In evolutionary terms, Chiron reminds us that what appears to be the wound often proves to be the doorway through which our deeper purpose unfolds.
