Lunar Eclipse Oct 18 – a few quick thoughts on the eclipse and USA budget battle deal:
Managing a precarious 11th hour save, the USA law makers have brokered a temporary deal to stave off the default on their national debt, to end the government shut down, and to get people back to their pay-checks. This has occurred with Venus in trine to Uranus and the moon in Aries on its way to Friday’s lunar eclipse. Venus/Uranus is a game and synchronizing aspect, it is one of optimizing the energies available, and of opening to the possibilities of unique solutions and new directions. The eclipse also draws from Mars in Virgo building an opposition to Neptune in Pisces which is perfected on Saturday, Mercury trine Jupiter, which does not perfect until Nov 27, and the approaching Mercury retrograde cycle which begins on Monday, Oct 21 (to Nov 10) .
This Aries eclipse requires action even though there’s still uncertainty and nebulousness to contend with. It may be hard to see what’s next or what’s best, but it is still necessary to shoot for something, to take an aim and hope that it is effective in reaching that ever moving, ever evolving target.
The budget battle deal, approved late Wednesday, Oct 16, by USA Congress with hours to go before the government reached its $16.7 trillion debt limit, only permits the Treasury to borrow through Feb. 7 and fund government through Jan. 15. Both these dates are triggered by Friday’s lunar eclipse. It is a good demonstration of the nature of eclipses. Be reminded that eclipses are eventful when they occur, but that their thrust-it-into-fast-forward influence extends over a length of time – weeks, months, even years. January 15, 2014 is in a dynamic or hard angle degree to the Oct 18 eclipse.
An eclipse animates and accelerates that which carries the greatest urgency or the ripest potential. Often we are taken by surprise. A lunar eclipse tends to bring to the surface that which has already been in development but that as not yet come into our full consciousness. A solar eclipse signals a more potent birth or definitive end point.
Over the next couple of months while the lunar eclipse (and the solar eclipse of Nov 3) continues to be activated, there will be an intensified shaping of outer events and inner consciousness. Progressively we begin to see a fuller outline, to understand what we are working with and toward. The best we can do during this interval is to expect that the baseline will natural evolve and to allow for more unfolding, to figure it out step by step, and to evaluate continuously as new information comes in.
The influence of the October eclipse will arc through January 15, a release, synthesis, springboard, or come-to-a-head action point. The more time passes, the more defined and insistent the choices becomes. We are most effective when we can stay up to speed and to consciously incorporate the learning and the resources as our knowledge grows. As of January 15, we’ll finding ourselves thrusting into a next phase.
For astrology students: Friday’s eclipse occurs at 25:45 Aries. January 15 delivers a full moon at 24 Cancer (sun at 24 Capricorn.) This full moon is in critical angle to this week’s (Oct 16, 2013) lunar eclipse. On Feb 7, transiting Mars will be at 25 degrees Libra, the degree of the lunar eclipse sun. Transiting Mercury is also in potent position as it is conjunct Neptune which is a contributing energy to the October 16 eclipse.
October’s Overview:
October’s stars waste no time and neither should you. The month starts with the sun making dynamic contact with Pluto and Uranus. Along with the new moon in Libra on Oct 4, the stars launch into a quick start or jump start program. The new program can be in stark contrast to where you’ve just come from. Know that the days that follow this new moon are creative and productive, so put them to good use.
Then again, we can see a stark reality settling in as Mercury conjoins with Saturn for the first of three alignments on Oct 8. Even though the cement is drying, don’t expect it to be stagnant. Mercury/Saturn now lays the foundation of a new reality base. It’s a process and it takes time. It will take two months to build the frame-work and/or accomplish this stage of the process. Mercury/Saturn will conjoin again on Oct 29 and Nov 25. These dates represent paving-stone and/or completion peaks. Mercury/Saturn cycle will also keep watch on key authority figures, dictators, key business, manufacturing, government, or corporate sectors. Mercury/Saturn can bring major business or political developments and announcements. It is a statement for the government shut-down that has just occurred in the USA. This is a decisive transit for important professional, financial, or relationship matters. It can be a helpful influence for getting yourself better focused, for retaining information, for commitment and contract matters.
Mercury in Scorpio will zero in on that which is most compelling and empowering, or most undermining and corrupt. The intention of this Mercury/Saturn cycle is to get more precise and therefore to get better on track. On the productive side of things, Mercury in Scorpio is resurrecting and reconstructive. It looks for the flaws in the reasoning or the action so that it can be cleared out of the way in order for better progress to be made. It is one that aims to upgrade the psychology, the impetuous, the ambition, and the learning.
Mercury in Scorpio is retrograde from Oct 21 to Nov 10. While in retrograde, Mercury intensifies the research part of the program. When the flavour is nitty-gritty Scorpio, this research can become a compulsion, an obsession, a power-struggle or a power-play. To be sure, it’s all on the line. The subjects du jour center on trust violations, abandonment issues, loss, crime, corruption, and sex. It is not surprising to see the USA again confronting its fiscal cliff issue as Mercury retrograde puts the focus on finances, debt, corporate or political mergers, and bankruptcy issues. Mars in Virgo, Oct 15 to Dec 7, puts an added focus on health initiatives, work, crisis management and corrective measures.
Just prior to Mercury’s retrograde cycle, it will align by trine with Jupiter in Cancer. This growth, mobilization, and saturation aspect is in development during the Aries lunar eclipse on Oct 18, but Mercury/Jupiter do not perfect until Nov 27. The days leading up to the eclipse can hold promise, especially on Oct 16 when Venus trines Uranus. Still, noting the proximity of Mercury retrograde to the eclipse and the Mars/Neptune opposition on Oct 19, keep on watch and anticipate that there is something more to be factored in. Mars/Neptune can unleash the potentials on brew. They can reveal something you didn’t notice or haven’t prepared for.
On Nov 1, Mercury conjoins the sun to bring us to the peak of the retrograde cycle. Also on this day, we’ll also reach the second Uranus square Pluto alignment of the year. It is the fourth out of seven alignments between 2012 and 2016. Nov 3 delivers a solar eclipse in Scorpio. Suffice to say that we are all moving through something major. I’ll be back next month with more…

Through this time you’ll find yourself on a critical revamp and/or wrap-up with an important financial or relationship matter. Regarding professional ambitions, finances, and personal life commitments, the cycle is also one that builds the platform for the long term future.
Mars advances into Virgo on Oct 15. Through Dec 7, Mars keeps you peddling faster on healing, health, and job matters, on fix-it or repair projects. Upgrade your skill set, get a specialty going, and look to improve where necessary. Mars in Virgo also puts an emphasis on the health and welfare of pets.
The Aries full moon on Oct 18 is also a lunar eclipse. You will feel the effects more strongly if you are born on or near April 15, but of course, it will fire up something for all of us.
Oct 16 and 17 are opportune and lucrative days. Try to take full advantage as best you can, but know the eclipse and the few days that follow can reveal something unforeseen. You can you lose your confidence or your way thanks to Mars opposition to Neptune on Oct 19 and the start of Mercury retrograde on October 21.
Mercury retrograde in Scorpio can feel undermining. It can put you on a psychological, financial, or emotional backtrack. The question of trust can be raised – in yourself or your ambition, in another, or regarding the shaping circumstances. You could feel betrayed or abandoned in your hour of greatest need. Ultimately Mercury retrograde takes you through a necessary adjustment. It is one of working the kinks out of the system so that you can enrich the potentials that are coming down the pike.
TAURUS (April 20 -May 20)
The start and the end of October are a time to get on with it and to see the good it does you. The stars now take you through a critical reshaping chapter that defines your future.
The new ground cover can be in stark contrast to what you are leaving behind. You have yet to see what’s waiting ahead, but Saturn is well supported by Chiron in Pisces through out this development curve. The aspect allows for that which is meant to filter in to do so with ease. Yes, there’s a price to pay, but at some gut level, you know you have to take it on.
Venus in Sagittarius, starting Oct 7, helps you to cover a greater distance regarding your learning, growth, and life circumstances. In the peak of the process from Oct 8 to the end of Nov, Mercury’s alignment with Saturn suggests a key person, situation, or contract (actual or karmic) is instrumental in taking you where you need to go.
Mars in Virgo, Oct 15 to Dec 7 boosts you with fresh vitality and creative impetuous. This transit helps you to get buff in body, mind and heart, to make improvements and upgrade where it will generate the best for you. It will help you to discover what works and what doesn’t regarding health, romance, and create-it goals. Mars is especially strong at the end of the month when it aligns (trines) Pluto.
The lunar eclipse on Oct 18 can bring something into the open that you didn’t expect or that you would rather have kept under wraps. It can also inflame a work situation or compromise your health. Hype up on your vitamins and other good for you safeguards. You may pin great hopes on something or someone, but noting Mars opposing Neptune the next day and Mercury retrograde starting on October 21, it is possible that what’s on brew may reach “almost but not quite”. Projection and seeing what you want to see can get the better of you. On a more basic note, the eclipse weekend can provide great moving watching or other entertainment. A healing retreat or self interest workshop can also hit the spot beautifully.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21)
As of the start of October (Oct 3 to be exact) the stars are on a significant forward thrust. All it takes is one good hit to get you buzzed up. Watch for sun/Uranus on Oct 3 to do so. You’ll start to engage and create with renewed vigour from this point forward. Mercury aligned with Pluto on Oct 6 and Saturn on Oct 8 is productive for getting a move-on or for getting it set up; for activities, communications, plans, and contracts. Mercury/Saturn helps you to gain better clarity, to get better on point or onto the task at hand. Due to Mercury’s retrograde cycle, Oct 21 to Nov 10, Mercury will meet with Saturn three times. The dates are: Oct 8, Oct 29, and Nov 25. Allow time for whatever you are working on to unfold. It’s a process and an evolution. There will be significant modification and sorting out to do along the way.
Mercury retrograde targets work, health, repair projects, and fix-it matters. Equipment, vehicle, plumbing, and electrical issues can arise. Don’t take chances with safety; pump up your immune system (physical and emotional.) Back up information, double-check facts and figures. This Mercury retrograde cycle is ideal for training programs and upgrades of all kinds. Take time out to devote to a particular project, to add to your skill set or to heal. It can be an especially productive cycle for research projects and for checking in with yourself again.
Venus in Sagittarius, Oct 7 to Nov 5, offers an ideal time to scout for better financial prospects or more clients. Regarding one-on-one relationships and also out there in the world at large, it is also a favourable influence for making yourself heard, seen, and valued more. Venus in Sagittarius can stimulate growth or a new direction regarding attractions, interests, and your social life. On the other hand, you can feel you are outgrowing circumstances and people, in which case, Venus in Sagittarius can prompt you to go it alone rather than to team up.
You can’t go too far wrong when you choose to work on yourself. Mars in Virgo, Oct 15 to Dec 7, takes you through a busy home, family, and personal improvement chapter.
CANCER (June 22-July 22)
Start of the month can jump-start you onto a new career, financial or personal life trajectory. You can quickly move from one extreme to another. Mercury’s conjunction with Saturn on Oct 8 can bring matters to finality, to fruition, or to a crystallization phase. Even so, there’s more to work on through this month and next. Mercury will complete with Saturn on Nov 25. Mercury’s trine to Jupiter comes very close to the lunar eclipse on Oct 18, but due to its retrograde cycle, the duo will not meet/perfect their aspect until Nov 27. The feel can be one of almost, but not quite there. The time extension provides you with the opportunity to fill in an essential missing blank, to see, understand, or develop more fully. Trust that things are progressing as they should and see it as a grace period for getting acclimatized and for getting your act together.
Venus in Sagittarius, Oct 7 to Nov 5 can increase your work load, anxiety, or financial pressure but it also provides you with fresh opportunity. Broaden yourself, scout around more.
Mars in Virgo, Oct 15 to Dec 7, is an ideal transit for studies, learning, work projects, and new health regimes. It is also one that suggests you have unfinished business to sort out with another, perhaps a sibling, friend, neighbour, colleague, or co-worker. It is a productive time to address issues and complaints, to seek added support or advice, to hire or to switch agents, courses, helpers, or advisors. While Mercury is in retrograde be extra careful regarding your communications and negotiations. As is typical of the cycle, mistakes can be more easily made; things you’ve said or done can come back at you at the worst possible time. You can feel betrayed by another or by circumstance. You may become your own worst enemy too. Mercury retrograde doesn’t have to be all bad though. The cycle can be one of opportunity too, although you may or may not see it full until the end of November. Watch the end of October for a plus and minus mix in this regard.
The lunar eclipse on Oct 18 can open up something unexpectedly or get you going on something new. It may be something that’s already in the works, or it may appear suddenly or unexpectedly. It is worth jumping on. Oct 15 to 19 can be an especially opportune action or solidification time.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)
The first half of October should keep you clipping along fairly well, thanks to Mars, continuing in Leo until Oct 15, and Venus in Sagittarius, starting on Oct 7. You’ll also gain a boost or added incentive from the sun/Uranus opposition on Oct 3. The first weekend of the month is an ideal time to check out something or someone new.
Spanning Oct 8 to Nov 25, Mercury conjoining Saturn in Scorpio prompts you to get down to the brass tacks regarding a home or financial matter. This transit can signal an ideal time to purchase real estate, sign a lease, to start a home or personal life renovation or to revamp your financial strategy. It brings an end to a way of life and starts to dry the cement on a new reality base. It’s also the right time to start renovating your psychology, your personal life, and your strategy for success.
You could find your progress undermined once Mercury turns retrograde, Oct 21 to Nov 10 but know that Mercury is determined to scope out the weak element so that it can be strengthened, re-tooled, or altogether overhauled.
Mars continues to serve you while travelling through Virgo, Oct 15 to Dec 7. You’ll find you can clean up your act and get to work more efficiently. You should find you have more to show for it too, although that can change once Mercury turns retrograde on Oct 21. Your best bet is to maximize on the stars through the first three weeks of the month and then to allow rather than to struggle or force during the retrograde time.
The couple of days prior to the lunar eclipse on Oct 18 could produce added excitement and adventure. There could be a special event to attend or someone or something to peak your interest. Too, be on the watch for a possible financial opportunity or windfall.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
The first few days of October could jettison you over something major and onto a next page pronto. Perhaps you’ll face a now or never decision regarding a relationship, purchase, or investment. Then again, perhaps you’ll feel circumstances have made your choice obvious and/or made the decision for you. When the sun opposes Uranus, people tend to be more impulsive and less inhibited, so don’t be so surprised if you find yourself taking a greater than average risk, or jumping into something quicker than is your norm. An adventure is calling. Try it or them on for size, you’ll know right away whether it’s right for you or not. A new relationship can have a familiar or keeper feel right from the start. Change your physical appearance or something much more, the Libra new moon on Oct 4 favours this leap and/or personal risk taking. It also infuses new life into an existing relationship or financial ambition. Venus in Sagittarius, starting Oct 7, and Mars into Virgo on Oct 15, keeps you and life clipping along a fast track.
The days before the lunar eclipse on October 18 can be especially lucrative and/or catapulting. The lunar eclipse brings you to yet another relationship or financial peak. Still, don’t get too far ahead of yourself, Mercury turns retrograde on Oct 21.
Mercury retrograde can put you on a communication, transportation, financial, or emotional backtrack. As is typical of the cycle, you’ll interface with people you haven’t seen for awhile. You may need to hash it out again with someone, or to revise your thinking, plans, strategy, or budget. It is an appropriate time to submerge yourself in soul searching, studies, or a personal re-group.
Expect to keep busy and to cover a lot of ground over the next couple of months. Through Dec 7, Mars in Virgo boosts your independence, courage, incentive, and your fighter spirit. Put ambition and passion to work for your greater good, and you can’t go too far wrong.
LIBRA (Sept 22-Oct 22)
Ready or not, here it comes. The Libra new moon on Oct 4 is boosted by Uranus, so you can expect to find yourself on a fast track, perhaps surprisingly so. It’s an ideal transit for keeping yourself in high social or professional visibility. Uranus is the synchronicity planet, so watch for opportunity and race on it when you see it. Put your feelers out there. A casual conversation could spark plenty more than you anticipate. An impulsive whim or purchase could get the better of you, but if it is something you’ll enjoy or get noticed for, go ahead, live it up.
It must also be stated that sun’s opposition to Uranus can be jarring, stress producing, unsettling, even shocking. Accidents can happen. Be especially safety conscious when out in traffic and steer clear of volatile situations or angry people.
If your birthday falls on Oct 3, 4, 15 – 20, a noteworthy, come-to-life year lies ahead. Life can take you someplace fresh and exciting.
Oct 7 to Nov 4, Venus in Sagittarius will keep you on the move physically, socially, intellectually, and creatively. This is a good transit for expanding your horizons, for studies, marketing, travel, and performance arts.
Mars in Virgo, Oct 15 to Dec 7, can keep you submerged in your work, your healing process, your private life or private world explorations. You could sit on the couch, but Mars is better put to use when you upgrade how you live with yourself in the ordinary every day realm.
Through October and November, Mercury and Saturn work to solidify a new material, professional or personal foundation. A significant contract, actual or karmic, can be in the works. Oct 8 or Nov 25 are good dates to seal the deal and/or to get your banking and finances sorted out. Of course, once Mercury turns retrograde there can be more to sort out, so before you lock yourself in do your homework as thoroughly as possible. Make sure you have options, a return policy, buy-out or re-neg clause, a financial cushion, etc. In other words, plan for the unforeseen. Regarding finances, relationships, or health matters, Mercury retrograde aims to get you much better clued in and/or to remove all doubt.
The lunar eclipse on Oct 18 can get you thinking along new lines and/or introduce you to something or someone new. Watch for financial or social opportunity, or an exciting event to attend. Something substantial or lucrative can get off the ground quickly, but once Mercury turns retrograde on Oct 21, you could get sidetracked or temporarily derailed. Mercury retrograde in Scorpio can produce added complications, delays, or expense just when you thought you had a good handle on it. It can create the necessity for a replacement, revision, or upgrade. Too, it can find you questioning motives, yours or theirs. Trust and abandonment issues are particular sore points. By now you probably know the Mercury retrograde drill. You can’t stop life, nor should you live in fear of a Mercury retrograde carpet pull, but you can stay alert, add extra safeguards, and aim to take the rest in stride.
SCORPIO (Oct 23~Nov 22)
The start of October can be a happening time for you. You could find yourself on a necessary spending spree. Anything you do to increase your skill, your visibility in the market place, your work efficiency, ease, or volume, your job prospects, your work or professional relationships, etc., is money and time very well invested. Venus in Sagittarius, Oct 7 to Nov 4, can put you on a financial increase or a financial hunt. Mars in Virgo, Oct 15 to Dec 7, is a great transit for professional networking, for developing a speciality/niche market, or for seeking additional training. It is also a productive time to upgrade your services or your equipment, and for breaking new ground regarding work, health, or your social life.
Due to its retrograde tour, Oct 21 to Nov 10, Mercury tenants Scorpio to Dec 4. Expect for life to dish up one thing after another. Expect to stay in action for the rest of the year. While Mercury tours retrograde, you can temporarily lose your momentum, passion, or your progress. You could be backtracked with a health, relationship, or logistics issue. Something that seemed so straight forward or so promising can suddenly get more complicated. A rethink may be necessary.
The lunar eclipse on Oct 18 fast tracks you onto a fresh opportunity or new challenge. Watch for disruption to your schedule or added tension on the job, and remember safety first. This eclipse and the weekend that follows is ideal for an escape or a switch-it-up, but make sure to stay detail oriented as Mercury is about to turn retrograde.

The transit can help you to gain better control over your finances and responsibilities. The world/your life can ask more from you now, but it is an appropriate time to participate in it more, to put yourself to the test, to upgrade your own standards and expectations.
CAPRICORN (Dec 22 ~ Jan 19)

Oct 8 and Nov 25 are good dates to a sign contract, to make a binding commitment, to get down to business, or to define where you stand.
Once Mercury travels retrograde (Oct 21 – Nov 10), it will be important to cut yourself extra slack and to keep a backup plan or extra funds on hand. It can be a testing time. You may not be able to stick to the schedule or your rules. If you have navigated your way on a rationalization or “should”, have talked yourself into something or have been coerced by another, Mercury retrograde can prove to be an undermining cycle. If you are on the right track, you may still be tested, but once the kinks are worked out, you’ll have a better platform built.

Oct 29 is a day to review, revisit or to modify plans, thinking, or commitments.

While it can take longer to gain results, to finish off what’s necessary, or to chalk a clear mark on that fresh start-line, the lunar eclipse on Oct 18 can get the ball rolling, perhaps unexpectedly so. Mars in opposition to Neptune can reveal a blind-spot or a potential you hadn’t noticed. Beyond a good time to mingle, indulge, or enjoy entertainment, Mars/Neptune can translate into a creative spurt or it could stimulate romance. Mars/Neptune is also a vulnerable combination, so keep your immune system well supplied with vitamins, safeguard against viruses, etc., and don’t take unnecessary risks with food, alcohol, or drugs. Enjoy yourself, but please don’t drink and drive.
