March Overview:
March 1st may be super Tuesday in USA politics, but when it comes to super, that’s March 8. Why do I say that? I’m referring to the Total Solar Eclipse in Pisces which is also a super new moon. A total eclipse is potent enough, but adding the super status makes for just a little more punch. To remind you, a super moon is when the moon is in closer proximity to the earth. Its gravitational pull has the effect of raising not only water and oceans tides, but our life tides too. Also note that a solar eclipse can be event generating not only on the actual day it happens, but in the days and weeks pre or post. I’d certainly include the USA political primary as a significant priority on the eclipse list.
Mercury square Mars on March 5 and the Sun’s square to Saturn on March 5 are both significant trigger influences. Sudden clarity, a brainstorm, or an impulsive moment could set the play in motion. Both are unblocking and release influences (perhaps unhinging too). In the early hours of March 5, Mercury advances into Pisces. It will be a short visit, only sixteen days, but none-the-less, it is a potent influence. As the ruler of one half of the karmic axis, Mercury activates something of ultimate value, meaning, and purpose. Mercury’s transit acts as a trigger or timer for the rest of the stellar influences in Pisces: Sun, Chiron, Ceres, and Neptune. The next few weeks can open it up to loss and disillusionment, or it can assist to bring life to a potential that’s already on brew, (to the plus, a dream or ultimate desire can start to show promise.)
As of March 6, both the sun and transiting moon are on a productive upswing. The total solar eclipse of March 8 happens at 5:54 pm at 19 Pisces. Remember that an eclipse is more influential to your personal life journey if it is makes direct contact to your chart. If not, it will simply be a more dynamic new moon or full moon. Solar eclipses are also event generating regarding worldly matters. We often hear of the passing of people of note or a birth of significance. Both solar and lunar eclipses can also produce significant weather or geophysical events.
Watch for the solar eclipse to be event generating from the start of the month and in the days prior to the actual event. When Pisces is the feature influence, the eclipse will affect large groups, the masses, large scale movements, trends, or global matters. The famous and the iconic are also news makers. Pisces has no boundaries, its influence can be limitless and infiltrating; it holds plenty of secrets and hidden resources. To the plus, when Pisces is ignited, it provides an opportunity to conjure, create and inspire; to tap inspiration, to realize, to make the intangible real. On the other hand, there is no immunity and increased susceptibility. This eclipse can demonstrate that there is no degree of separation when it comes to politics, humanitarian matters, health epidemics, or global warming. Certainly the world is watching USA politics with interest. My sense is that if Donald Trump wins the Republican candidacy, that it will cement the Democrats to win the election in November. (Hillary is just getting started; we have not yet seen her hit her full stride.)
The eclipse is punched up not only by it’s super moon status, but also by the Sun’s opposition to Jupiter retrograde in Virgo and by the eclipse in square to Saturn in Sagittarius.
Jupiter enlarges the scope where-ever it goes. This eclipse and its repercussions can produce defining moments not only for worldly matters but also for our private and personal journey. Jupiter in Virgo retrograde will key into the specifics of whatever isn’t working well enough and enlarge its scope. Watch for this eclipse to be revealing or uncovering in some major way. It may be a matter of generating a crisis; of breaking down to break through, of giving up to get. Pisces is an escapist archetype. With Jupiter in Virgo’s propensity to inflate the negative, it can be a good idea to keep watch on loved ones who are struggling with loss, depression, suicidal thoughts, addictions, health challenges, job losses, and such. Although this eclipse can suggest that assistance can feel like a small drop in the bucket, a helpful word or a quiet “here for you” presence can produce a positive ripple effect over time. Ultimately, no one can do your work for you. Heaven always helps those who help themselves. The eclipse sun’s opposition to Jupiter can be produce an ultimate crisis in faith and trust (in one’s self, in another, in the process, in the learning, in God).
Saturn in Sagittarius in square to the solar eclipse can also ignite an inner and/or outer conflict regarding belief, faith, trust, and priorities. The struggle can be against self, those in positions of authority, the rules, the law, the reality of the moment and the potentials of the future. The influences of Jupiter retrograde and Saturn can suggest a problem with an overly narrow point of view. Tunnel vision must give way, and that’s one of the major targets for this eclipse. One way or another, the eclipse aims to peel back a curtain and/or to open it/you/us up. The eclipse also suggests letting go of the preconceived and that creative solutions are your best bet. There may be folly in sticking to what you’ve prejudged as the “right” way or only solution. Instead allowing yourself to open up to a range of options and potentials. (Nothing ventured, nothing gained.) Whether it happens now or sometime later, the eclipse is meant to clear up the uncertainty.
Saturn in Sagittarius in square to this eclipse also suggests a realty that is overtaking the now and cementing the future. While the course is largely defining itself, we still have options (we always do). The future is laden with variable and infinite possibility. Although we must work under the present dictates and limitations, we can still mold and shape our course.
Saturn’s influence marks the March solar eclipse as an important catalyst driving business, professional development, government matters, or governing bodies. Here’s a small run down of charts directly impacted by the super new moon solar eclipse: it opposes North Korea’s sun; is conjunct England’s north node; trines Canada’s Saturn and is conjunct the karmic axis (north node); squares Donald Trump’s karmic axis, eclipse position of Saturn opposes his Uranus; trines Putin’s Uranus; is conjunct the natal moon (the populace) of Syria, opposes Bashar al-Assad’s sun (conjunct his Chiron); opposes the NYSE Mars (Jupiter is conjunct the natal Mars); squares the karmic axis of the TSX. The total solar eclipse visibility starts in Indonesia and ends west of North America. Depending on where you live, the eclipse could take place on March 8 or 9. Also adding an extra punch to the moment and the eclipse, Ceres in Pisces perfects a square aspect with Saturn on March 9. This transit is one of resurrecting something that has been previously lost, forgotten, stuffed or buried; that has escaped full recognition or notice. Note that the eclipse is in aspect to the karmic south node, which suggests a resurrection and/or clearing time for something that holds great value from the past, that is highly influential to the present, and to the evolving forward. Mercury and Neptune, the rulers of the karmic axis, come full circle (conjunction aspect) on March 10. Bernadette Brady (Predictive Astrology), describes the eclipse Saros series family (which includes the lunar eclipse of March 23) as a signature of endings, separations, goodbyes, and departures. “There can be anguish or grief, but the painful side of loss is lessened by the encountering of new situations which lead to positive outcomes.” This description can certainly be applied to the eclipse moon’s travel across Neptune, Ceres and Chiron in Pisces. (Chiron’s losses are often a bittersweet mix.) March 10, the sun culminates with Chiron while the rulers of the karmic axis, Mercury and Neptune, complete a cycle within a cycle. Also on March 10, the transiting moon (which has advance into Aries) is at perigee, its closest proximity to the earth. March 11, the sun culminates with the karmic south node. Mark March 10/11 as action or activation dates. From here, Mercury/Neptune, sun/Chiron, and sun/south node (karmic axis) begin a new orientation. Mercury will again directly activate the karmic axis on March 16, 17. March 23/24 Chiron and Ceres will complete on the karmic axis and March 29 Venus will do the same. One by one through the end of the month, the stars are moving through karmic priority checkpoints. At the same time, they will infuse fresh energy into their newly forming initiatives.
The lunar eclipse on March 23 occurs at 3:17 Libra and is visible in western South America and North America, the Pacific Ocean, Australia, Alaska and eastern Russia. See image of eclipse visibility: http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2016-march-23
Jupiter perfects a square aspect to Saturn on the lunar eclipse of March 23. (It will do so again on June 26.) Jupiter/Saturn suggests a major step forward in observation, awareness, personal judgement, and reconciling with today’s reality. The aspect prompts a reprioritization regarding priorities and implementation of strategies for success. It also animates internal growth, correction, or healing. In other words, Jupiter/Saturn can signal the start of a productive sort-it-out, roll-up-your-sleeves and get-down-to-task chapter. To the plus, it also promotes the development of skill sets and better coping.
The lunar eclipse in Libra ignites matters to do with partnership, equality, cooperation, enmeshment issues, alliances, law, contracts, social politics, and your personal balancing act. Mercury is conjunct the sun in Aries on the lunar eclipse. On March 24, Mercury trines Mars in Sagittarius, and the sun does the same on March 26. Mercury/Sun, Mercury/Mars and Sun/Mars suggest a fired-up, mobilization time for your outer life and personal life. It’s the right time to take a risk on something new; to go independent, to hit the ground running regarding a key relationship matter (go for it or free yourself), a project, circumstance, or ambition. Mercury in Aries also suggests a key someone could be a major catalyst; someone key could enter or exit your life. Saturn’s turn to retrograde on March 25 can remove the limitations or rationalizations that have so far prevent you from a more successful move along.
Lastly, there’s Mars to talk about. Mars enters Sagittarius on March 5. It can be a positive contributor/stimulant for the lunar eclipse on March 23. Mars will turn retrograde on April 17 so make the most of this expanded opportunity transit. Go exploring, travel, learn, be open to an adventure, move yourself across the country or onto a new mindset. Take a risk on a brighter future. I will soon post more on the transit of Mars in Sagittarius and the upcoming Mars retrograde cycle.
