July Overview:
Canada Day weekend keeps Vancouver’s International Jazz Festival and more in full swing. Happy Birthday Canada, Happy Birthday USA, both days will end with good fireworks.
Between the two holidays, comes the July 3 full moon in Capricorn. For Canadians, it’s back to the grind, for US working folk it’s a finish-line. For those confronted by and/or suffering through an added dose of reality, this full moon is one of no time to waste and of steam-rolling ahead. The full moon’s re-stimulation of Uranus/Pluto keeps push-come-to-shove on the fast track. This full moon can be one of heavy pressure and sudden release, a breaking-point followed by a significant breakthrough. Turkey & Syria, the continuing EU economic struggle, weather extremes, the aftermath of the Elliot Lake mall collapse, RIM, etc. – what’s next?
Prior to the full moon on July 3, Mars advances into Libra. As it does, it opens a dialogue with Ceres in Gemini. It is a suggestion of improved lines of cooperation, or at least it suggests a greater need for such. Ceres in Gemini – seeding of ideas; Mars in Libra – the desire for more harmony and peace, the fight for peace and justice is on. I’ll talk more of Mars in Libra in a moment.
We have just come to the end of six weeks of Venus retrograde, five months of Saturn retrograde, and eight months of Mars in Virgo, three of which Mars spent in retrograde motion too. (Mars retrograde was in effect from the end of January through mid April.) Venus retrograde, the planet that correlates to resources, relationships, finances, and survival needs, has taken us through an intensified reassessment chapter. Saturn retrograde has challenged accountability, authority, the system and its rules. Mars in Virgo, by direct and retrograde motion, has targeted that which has been in dire need of fixing. Yes, we have been amply tested. As these cycles have neared completion, a BC woman suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease challenged the constitution and won the right for doctor assisted suicide. Just as Venus ended retrograde, the US Supreme Court upheld the heart of Obama’s heath care overhaul. There’s certainly more work to be done on these fronts and more, but they are suggestive that important tides are finally starting to turn.
For the past 8 months, Mars has been steering through a Virgo initiative. This stripping-it- away transit has exposed where the most damaging flaws, weak spots, disorganization and disintegration lies. In so doing, it has been working to pin-point to where the repair and healing is most needed
As stated earlier, a few hours before the full moon, Mars advances into Libra, a Venus ruled sign. Through August 23, Mars pushes for reconciliation and a bettered equilibrium. Libra is the archetype of partnership and alliances. While Mars is in Libra, the EU and the United Nations will likely be forced to invest more, to create/accelerate a more united front. The transit is also suggestive of a stronger push to put more economic and humanitarian fire-walls in place. Through mid month, Eris, the goddess of discord, is in opposition to Saturn. Inconsistent application, effectiveness and results continue to challenge all.
Use the first two weeks of July to move it as far ahead as you can while there is the opportunity to do so. Uranus begins retrograde On July 13, and Mercury in Leo begins retrograde on July 14. Keep an eye on these dates for interruption, disruption and havoc. Watch for the sudden and unexpected, stay flexible with plans and time-tables and be ready to switch it up or jump into it as the moment dictates. Ceres in dynamic aspect (square) to Chiron on July 15 can resurrect or re-fester something and/or the aspect can also advance a poignant healing. July 13 to 15 is an ideal weekend to take a break, to disconnect or unplug, to seek fresh stimulus, entertainment, or inspiration. On the other hand, should circumstances turn the tables on you, do you best to go with the moment and look to the week ahead to fast track you to where you need to go. The new moon in Cancer on July 18 could see you make a positive breakthrough.
July 17, 18 are particularly hot wired as both Mars and the transiting moon re-stimulate the ongoing Uranus/Pluto transit. (If you didn’t see my last mailer, please check-out my website for Uranus/Pluto, An Awakening Force.) Although a new moon is usually a quieter influence, July 18 is likely to pack an added punch. The new moon occurs in Cancer, so you can expect emotions to be more fired-up than usual, especially when aroused by issues pertaining to safety, security, family, home, domestic, and economics
Mars in opposition to Uranus on the new moon of July 18 can be a break-through, bust- through, provoking, or liberating influence. It is also an eruptive, disruptive, impulsive, volatile and accident influence. Please take extra safety precautions, especially with young ones and water safety. Like the full moon on July 3, this new moon can act as a trigger for money markets, political conflicts, and weather extremes.
July 14 to Aug 7, Mercury retrograde in the sign of Leo puts the spotlight onto something or someone of particular significance. It also brings self-interests, personal pleasures, and self pampering to the foreground. One way or another, you will be made aware of more than is obvious to you now. You can be illuminated in striking or unexpected ways. What’s best for you? Who’s best for you? Sorting it out can only do you good in the long run.
Mercury in Leo retrograde also expands creative ingenuity. It is a cycle when you can and should make the best of the moment.
Excitement for the London Summer Olympics (July 27 to Aug 12), should ramp up as the sun enters Leo on June 22. Although Mercury is still in retrograde, the end of the month is an okay time to move forward on decisions, commitments and plans.
Mercury reaches the peak of its retrograde cycle on July 27. On July 30, the sun in trine Uranus brings fresh insight and opens a window or a door. The moment is infused. The short term or short range is a stepping stone or set up for the long term.
July 31, Venus completes an information gathering transit and crystallizing aspect with Saturn that began when Venus turned retrograde mid May. Venus/Saturn brings contract matters, both actual and karmic, to solidification platform, or a secure-it stage. It can be a destiny-shaping time for some. The Olympics should deliver the gold, especially July 30 to Aug 2.
“Do you believe” – the Olympic motto is a call not a question and it stretches well beyond the games. |Do you believe in the amazing potential of the human spirit?” Now more than any other time on the planet, it is imperative that that we voice a resounding “YES.”

Have you let some priorities slide while you have been coping elsewhere? The month’s start puts them on the front burner. Mercury in Leo begins retrograde on this weekend. Through August 7, let the good times roll. Go ahead, let swept up in the delights of moment, but don’t let yourself get caught up or entangled in drama. As is typical of the cycle, you can re-meet with folks you haven’t seen for awhile. Mercury retrograde can keep you on the go. If it’s time for a big purchase, such as new wheels, new devices, etc. do your research and try to hold off until after the retrograde cycle is complete. If you can’t wait that long, July 30 and 31 are okay dates to purchase, invest, or sign a contract.

CANCER (JUNE 22-JULY 22)
The compelling or overpowering is at work. July 3, the full moon could pull you into something irresistible or unavoidable. This isn’t the time to skirt around. Face it head on. Short and snappy does it best. Mercury well aligned with Uranus on this full moon suggests a twist of event or some new prospect places you at an advantage. Of course, more quality “me time” is a good first pick.
Too, this Mercury retrograde cycle is a time to be more selective regarding who and what gets a piece of you. For the past eight months, it has been one thing after another with very little let up. Mars in Virgo has kept you struggling to clear up finances and relationship issues. While you have made progress, you are likely to say you aren’t as far along as you would like to be.
The end of June has brought the end of both Venus and Saturn retrograde. These two redirections and the ongoing Uranus/Pluto transit will facilitate better timing now. Still, there’s still one more hoop to jump through. I’ll talk about Mercury retrograde in a moment.
