Overview for January 2016:
Mercury enters Aquarius on January 1, but we only have a very short window to get at it fresh. Mercury begins a three-week retrograde cycle on January 5. By Jan 7, Jupiter in Virgo follows suit. A less obvious transit, Jupiter retrograde, a cycle that occurs once a year, calls for more questioning/exploration regarding what we accept as truth, more questioning around our philosophies, concepts and beliefs, how we envision and embrace our next steps and future course. Continuing in retrograde through May 9, Jupiter retrograde in Virgo can single out something specific that needs tending too. This transit makes the message, the flaws or the weak points much clearer. It forces us to look for better solutions, and to think for ourselves rather than to accept information wholesale. Jupiter in Virgo keeps the skeptic, the editor, and the repair worker busy. By retrograde or direction motion, Jupiter in Virgo also informs us that there’s a lot more healing and upgrading to do.
As of Jan 8, Mercury backtracks into Capricorn, finishing the retrograde cycle in this sign on Jan 25. (Mercury will return to Aquarius by Feb 13.) While Mercury is retrograde tours Capricorn, priorities, deadlines, limitations, and matters to do with parents, parenting, and authority (yours, bosses, those in charge) draw our attention. Goals and ambitions can be thwarted. What’s appropriate, what’s not? Legitimacy, boundaries, or personal rights can be challenged. Foundations, structures or rationales may not be as solid or secure as they seem. Delays and time wasters are typical of the cycle. To the plus, Mercury retrograde takes us through a review and correction cycle. It will always demonstrate what isn’t working well enough, what isn’t reliable, what or isn’t strong enough to continue with.
Jan 3 to 8 is for taking it one step at a time and rolling with the retrograde punches as they arise. The Capricorn new moon on Jan 9 can get you better situated or launched. The week ahead is a mobilizing week. Venus trine Uranus on Jan 12, sun trine Jupiter on Jan 13 and Mercury retrograde conjunct the sun and trine Jupiter makes for an optimal time to connect, communicate, socialize, travel, or to put yourself out there. Despite a few more days of Mercury retrograde to go, you can see a faster upswing/move along or cut to the chase as of Jan 20 through the Leo full moon on Jan 23. Mercury conjoins Pluto on Jan 29 and squares Uranus on Jan 30. This completes a two-month cycle that started Dec 19/20 (the week prior to Christmas.) It’s time to put it behind you, or to take it to the next level.
Use the month of January to get yourself better prepared, organized, and committed and aim for full steam ahead once Mercury retrograde ends on Jan 25.

ARIES March 19/20 – April 19
The start of the year can pull you back into something major. While Mercury travels retrograde in Capricorn, you may feel you have less or no control, that your effort is less effective, that the goal-post has shifted. January is an appropriate time to reassess, to overhaul as necessary and to get yourself better organized. Aim to downsize, reduce, or budget better. While Mars tours Scorpio, (Jan 3 to Mar 5) you are wise to sharpen your observational skill and to develop a strategy that helps you to play it smarter, not harder.
Ambition looks good on you for 2016. It’s time to get a better grip on it. A circumstance, project, or burning desire can keep you focused, driven and consumed for the better portion of the year. Mars in Scorpio can put finances or a relationship matter on the line and/or make the get-go more complex. To the plus, Mars in Scorpio keeps motivation, passion, and ambition in ample supply. There are healthy obsessions and unhealthy ones. It pays to know the difference! Due to a retrograde cycle (April 17 to June 28), Mars revisits Scorpio from the end of May through the start of August. While in this sign your investment needs to be substantial. It’s not a time to dip a toe, it’s the time for a full dive. Mars tours Sagittarius in August and September. Whether to do with pleasure and play or charting a new life course, these can be abundance months for you. Jupiter’s advance into Libra in September takes the focus off the work or the minus column and puts you onto a social and relationship upswing.
TAURUS April 19 – May 20
Mercury’s retrograde cycle, Jan 5 to 25, can be an important regroup/re-envision-it time. It seems you have something significant to surpass. You can find yourself on a wait, a hold up, or a time extension, but when you make use of it and apply yourself wisely, January can be a productive month. Think, plan, and prioritize the checklist marked “the long range; the lasting; the future”.
For 2016, Mars, the action and activation planet, will extend a tour through the signs of Scorpio and Sagittarius. While in Scorpio, you’ll confront the dynamics of your relationship to another and to your social world. Mars in Scorpio forces you to deal with people and issues head-on. This transit puts added focus on the inner and outer conflicts of choice-makings. It takes you through an intensified process of self examination and reconciling with yourself. Matters to do with contracts, commitments, legalities, trust issues, agendas, sex, power-struggles and self-empowerment initiatives can also consume your priority attention. Should a new passion, vocational track, or intimate relationship appear, it is one that calls your soul to attention.
Mars in Sagittarius will increase, expand, lengthen, deepen and/or enrich what Mars in Scorpio has launched. How ambitions play out depends on what track you are already on. To the plus, Mars in Sagittarius can be profit-generating. It can motivate you to increase your financial holdings, or see a relationship grow and prosper. On the other hand, debt can escalate; the distance can grow between you and another, or between you and the cherished goal. If you find that life is not heading in the direction you want it to, don’t waste your time, cut your losses and move on. Mars aims to point you in the direction that best supports your growth and your future. 2016 is a transition year. It is a journey and a process, a key and important one. Time serve as your best teachers. Allow it to inform and to guide you.
GEMINI May 20 – June 20
The first ten days of January are for getting it straight, working it out, and/or finishing it off. Mars and Venus help you to hone in on it, to shift your perspective or reasoning. Jan 8 to 14 can take you over a hump or move past a finish line, block, or hold-up. On a basic note, it’s time to get yourself more fully engaged and/or plugged back in. You may have to renew a contract, or make another important decision. Although Mercury continues in retrograde, there are times when you simply cannot put things off. When this is the case, stay realistic, don’t over or undershoot, and trust that the timing is appropriate (it is.)
The year ahead is for getting a better grip: observe, refine, plan, and get organized. Through the end of September, Mars puts a sharper focus on work, health, equipment or educational upgrades and self-improvement mandates. Don’t hesitate to seek the advice of a professional or expert. Regarding work, career, or self-employment, aim to be a leader or front runner; to make them think of you first. Work to improve your performance/track record, add a specialty, or to develop a niche market. The first two-thirds of 2016 are for investing your all and for preparatory work or staging. Look to the fall and into 2017 for launch-it or harvest time.
CANCER June 20 – July 22
Travelling back in time; going back to go forward; a repeat or revisit could be the key that unlocks it for you. Mercury retrograde starts the year in reverse. Review is an important process, give it the time and respect that is due. Nothing is insignificant, everything can seem pressing. You’ll need to figure out what really is important and what can be relegated to another time or ditched altogether. If the pressure is alleviated once Mercury turns retrograde, it will only be a temporary reprieve. Still, the gift of Mercury retrograde is a time extension. Stay productive and use it wisely. Jan 11 to 14 can be especially opportune. Stay observant, keep looking, keep putting yourself out there, and seize the here-and-now advantage.
Feeling ambitious? Needing to be? 2016 sets you up for power-play time. Your sign derives great benefit from the lengthy tour of Mars through Scorpio (Jan 3 to March 5; May 27 to Aug 2). This is a strengthen, refortify, and re-empower yourself influence. It can be great transit for your career, your business, or your financial get-ahead; it bodes well for success in love too. A conquer-it influence, Mars in Scorpio can help you to make a critical health turnaround. March 5 to May 27, Mars in Sagittarius puts the work or the issue right up front where you can’t miss seeing it. April 17 to June 29, Mars takes a retrograde spin. There can be a degree of backtracking, unravelling, or faltering during this time, but even so, this weeding out cycle is meant to help you clear away what doesn’t hold merit, what isn’t strong enough to carry you the distance, or can’t withstand the test of time.
LEO July 22 – August 22
One way or another Mercury retrograde will put you back to work. Jan 5 to 25 could also put you on a health backtrack. Inconveniences, repairs, and added expense is typical of the cycle. Problems can arise regarding scheduling, finding help when you need it, following orders, procedures, or legal requirements, with employees or those in charge. It is an appropriate time to put extra safeguards in place, to reinforce, recommit or to refortify from within. A market test, trial run, or more research can be to your advantage. It is not a time to race ahead, but to slow down or bide time. Aim to build it deliberately and consciously.
The end of January through the first half of March is optimal for action taking. This window extends through the middle of April. August onward is your next forward thrust time. For a good chunk of 2016, Mars will keep you well driven and well occupied. Perhaps there’s a new address in the works. Mars in Scorpio takes your shrewd investor/negotiator side out for a test drive. It’s a time to lay it all on the line, but make sure to give yourself extra leeway to see how Mars retrograde, April 17 to June 28, moves the goal post. Home, renovation projects, family, personal development, self employment, and real estate matters hit a fast forward track, especially through the start of March. Creative projects, educational pursuits, and your love life can also flourish, especially while Mars tours Sagittarius in August and September. This is also a good time to schedule vacation travel, to move across the country or get yourself enrolled.
VIRGO August 22 – September 22
Mercury’s retrograde tour, Jan 5 to 25, can redirect you, or see you (perhaps force you to) revamp your commitments, priorities or goals. Too, it can take you through a self-examination process that keeps you on an extended search for better answers, solutions, and control. Stay patient, give it time, take your time. As the saying goes, the good stuff is worth waiting for.
Aim for the end of January through mid March to put peddle to the metal. The exposing and/or full of promise solar eclipse of March 8 will be activated for several weeks before the actual event date. August/September is another notable action period, thanks to Mars and another solar eclipse on Sept 1. Both eclipse seasons can be especially catapulting in terms of your life course, especially so if you are born on the solar eclipse of Sept 1, the lunar eclipse of Sept 16, or Sept 10 or 11.
Ambition looks good on you while Mars tenants Scorpio, especially Jan 3 to March 5. From the end of May through the start of August, Mars can show you who’s on your side and who’s not. The transit assists you to become a better strategist and communicator. The transit can create a magnetic/auric field around you that others can’t help but notice. You can gain more influence, status, and sway with folks in general and perhaps with someone in particular. Mars retrograde can take you through a major karmic replay with a sibling, friend, colleague, or neighbour. One way or another, Mars in Sagittarius will put your life on the move. This growth spurt transit favours relocation, real estate investment and/or a home move (best times for action: March 5 to April 17; August 2 to Sept 27). It’s also apt for educational pursuits.
LIBRA September 22 to October 22
Mercury begins retrograde in Aquarius but doesn’t stay there for long, backing into Capricorn by Jan 8. Something new, perhaps unexpected, could require extra time, research, processing, or investment before you get a good handle on it. By mid month, you should feel you are on an upswing. Matters to do with family, parenting, parents, real estate, security, self-preservation and legitimizing your needs are Mercury’s target. While Mercury is retrograde, a trial run, short term project, or take it one-step-at-a-time approach is best. A delay or pause could work to your advantage. Line it up during Mercury retrograde and aim for the end of January through mid March for putting it into action.
2016 is a year to rebuild and/or refortify yourself and your wealth. Mars in Scorpio (Jan 3 to Mar 5; end of May through start of August) helps you to be more resourceful, focused, determined, and driven. Watch for this transit to sharpen and to deepen your intuitive awareness and your deductive reasoning. You’ll start to think and feel your way along in more black and white terms. Mars in Sagittarius (May 5 to May 27; Aug 3 to Sept 27) can make choices and best options more obvious. Use this transit to broaden your knowledge, skills, your social base or notoriety; to travel or relocate; to increase your coffers; to seek justice or truth; to write or publish. The exposing solar eclipse of March 8 can reveal something timely or opportune, perhaps regarding work, studies, or a vocational path. If a health issue arises, see it as a blessing in disguise. Same goes for anything that needs to be fixed, corrected or repaired.
The first two-thirds of the year is a research and development time. As of September Jupiter begins its one-year tour of Libra. It is also the start of a new twelve-year personal and relationship growth cycle.
SCORPIO October 22 to November 21
2016 begins with Mercury retrograde in Capricorn from Jan 5 to 25. Although it is a good transit for pulling back, it isn’t likely to slow you down much. That’s because as of Jan 3, Mars, the action/assertion, and passion planet, is fresh at it in Scorpio. Whether fuelled by desire or necessity, you should feel well driven and motivated, especially when it comes to a personal project or ambition, health and wealth upgrades. Time to yourself is a coveted commodity, one you’ll put to good use.
Mercury retrograde is good for a rethink, a revisit, or a game-plan revision. Renegotiate your terms or a contract, have another talk or look/see. You can build on a previous success, so by all means, if it worked for you once, try it again. Even so, there’s always room for improvement. Modifications can be necessary and/or wise. Upgrade it and/or invent it as you go along.
Due to it’s retrograde cycle (April 17 to June 28) Mars will spend extra time in Scorpio in 2016. Mars provides two springboard peaks, January through the start of March, and July through September. These are your best times to hit full steam ahead. Use Mars retrograde (April 17 to June 29) to stoke the fire, to revise and prepare as necessary.
SAGITTARIUS November 21 to December 21
January’s start puts a fresh prospect or project on the go. The start of Mercury retrograde can dish up a fresh insight, an added complication, or an alternative option to consider. Too, you could get side-tracked or waylaid temporarily. Jan 3 to 8, take it as it comes. Communications, ideas, same page accord, opportunity – in general, things come together and move along much better in the week that follows. As of the end of the January through the middle of April, life should hit a faster move along.
Due to a retrograde cycle from April 17 through June 29, Mars is on an extended visit to your sign. If you are a November-born Sagittarius, you’ll feel the influence of Mars retrograde the strongest. When Mars turns retrograde, it inverts the energy. The transit isn’t about the output; it is about refuelling/stoking the inner flame. Mars retrograde also intensifies your magnetic force field, which can be very potent in terms of calling forth. It is an appropriate time to check in with yourself, to strengthen inner resolve, to get back in touch with yourself and your deepest desires. Look to August/September onward for a great time to go exploring and/or to sign yourself up for a new adventure.
CAPRICORN December 21 – January 20
Things to do, places to go, people to see, Mercury picks up a fresh wind in Aquarius as the New Year begins, but as of Jan 5, the quick one puts it in reverse. By Jan 8, Mercury revisits Capricorn, ending retrograde on Jan 25 but staying in your sign through the middle of February. While Mercury is retrograde, you may second guess yourself or change your mind altogether. The cycle can delay you, but see it as a blessing in disguise. The retrograde serves as a weeding out process. If it isn’t strong enough to go the distance, it’s better to cut it short rather than to waste your time, dollars, or heart. Mercury in Capricorn retrograde will help you to get your priorities straight and to figure out what is legitimately in your best interest. Use your time wisely and aim to hit go as soon as the retrograde completes on Jan 25.
February through the beginning of March and into the middle of April is a right time to get a move on; to explore more, to develop, stage, or reposition yourself. If that’s too soon for you, not to worry.
April 17 to June 29, Mars is retrograde. This time is best used to rethink your goals. A lifestyle change or financial overhaul is likely in the works during this time-frame. You could shift gears on a key relationship, career, or community involvement. Mars is on a forward thrust in August and September but your optimal time for action, new enterprise, and risk taking comes at the end of Sept through mid December.
AQUARIUS January 20 – February 18/19
Mercury enters Aquarius on Jan 1 with an extra kick from Mars from Jan 3 to 5. Watch for something potent, perhaps sudden and unexpected, to grab your attention and or to redirect you. While Mercury is retrograde (Jan 5 to 25) you are wise to keep observant, to reserve judgement, and/or to keep your opinions, projects, and ambitions yourself. It is also a time to be careful about making promises or to let your expectations over-ride the reality. Pump up your immune system, guard your health, and anything else that’s important to you. Keep your secrets to yourself. Stay open to possibilities, consider all options or advice, but also adopt a wait-and-see stance. Jan 10 to 14 can be an informing few days. The retrograde cycle will naturally disintegrate whatever doesn’t hold water or can’t withstand the test of time.
Use Mercury retrograde to get yourself better organized and on track, and aim to hit the ground running as of the end of January and into the start of March. This time-frame is supported by Saturn’s trine to Uranus, a transit that will reappear at the end of the year and that sets up an especially opportune 2017.
Mars spends two-thirds of the year building a momentum, laying a foundation, and setting the parameters. It can refocus your attention and your priorities. It can be a milestone year; perhaps you’ll undertake a major contract, actual or karmic. Mars wants you or forces you to get ambitious and recommitted; to build your fortune and your future. A new status pertaining to career, a committed relationship, or finances appears in the works. By the end of June, you’ll start to see take more definitive shape.
The first two thirds of the year can be a preparatory and refine-it time. By mid September, Jupiter advances into Libra, a complimentary, lucrative, and opportune placement for your sign. This one-year Jupiter transit benefits you socially, financially and relationship wise.
PISCES February 18/19 – March 19/20
The first few days of January can kick it up a notch, perhaps unexpected so. While you are ready to hit the ground running, Mercury turns retrograde on Jan 5 and Jupiter does the same on Jan 8. You’ll make better progress in the week that follows and you’ll pick up even better speed once Mercury retrograde ends on Jan 25. February and March are action and lucrative create-it months. Saturn’s trine to Uranus bodes well for career, marketing, education, and the money chase. As such it is a good time to go exploring and/or to build a new and/or better framework.
Jupiter’s transit through Virgo and the eclipses of the year are potent catalysts for your sign, especially so if you are born on or near Feb 28, March 8, 14, or 22. The solar eclipse on March 8 and Sept 1 can be quite significant (perhaps huge or momentous) in terms of taking you or your life in a new direction. Something or someone new could burst on to the scene. Watch for a key relationship to move along a fast track.
A major growth and expansion year lies ahead. Spending two-thirds of the year in either Scorpio or Sagittarius, Mars sets the future on its course in some undeniable way. Travel, education, performing, publishing, marketing, and relocation are favoured while Mars tenants Scorpio (Jan 3 to March 5; May 28 to Aug 2.) Mars in Sagittarius can see your career or a relationship take flight; March 5 to 28 can be a set the stage, gear up, or test-it time, while Aug 2 through Sept 26 is best for getting yourself fully committed and launched. Don’t be afraid to make a significant investment. The future is worth its price-tag. Jupiter’s one-year tour of Libra, starting mid September, bodes well for finances and love. October/November are also opportune and lucrative months.
